STEP WRITE THROUGH

I was privileged to grow up with a teacher who walked me through the process of writing, showing me how to plan, draft, edit and publish sound essays. I never realized how special this gift truly was, until I began teaching English to Dutch high school pupils. I discovered that no one had ever taught them how to write and that because of that they lacked both skill and confidence in their writing.

In response, I developed a lesson series on the cyclical writing process, giving my pupils the opportunity, like my old history teacher gave me, to plan, draft, edit and publish sound essays. As part of this series, pupils were given the opportunity to try out various pre-writing, drafting and editing activities to determine which ones were most beneficial to them.  In doing so, they began to uncover their own personal writing style, not only improving their writing skills in the process, but growing in confidence as writers.

I soon realized that what I am most passionate about teaching is writing. So, now, I offer my services as a freelance writing coach for students. I believe that anyone can learn to write well, if they are given the tools and guidance to do so.
